YOUR INSTRUCTOR

Alan Schaller

Based between London and Paris, Alan Schaller specializes in black-and-white photography.

Often abstract, his images contain elements of surrealism as well as geometry and are characterized by high contrasts. His work always illuminates the realities and diversities of human life.

Schaller's photographs are exhibited worldwide and published in The Guardian, The New York Times and The Independent, among others. He is an ambassador for Leica cameras and co-founder of the Street Photography International Collective.

WEEKEND SCHEDULE

Saturday December 16th
10 am - 6 pm

Morning
Starting at the Leica store Ginza, the workshop kicks off with a presentation led by Alan. Leveraging his collection of photographs, Alan will provide participants with valuable perspectives on his artistic approach and the distinctive style he has cultivated over years of photographing in cities worldwide.

Afternoon
Following a lunch break in the vicinity of the Leica store, dive into an exhilarating afternoon of immersive street photography in the bustling streets of Tokyo. Alan will share tips and techniques to guide participants in crafting unforgettable images.

Sunday December 17th
10 am - 6 pm

Morning
Reconvene at the Leica store Ginza to review the images captured during the previous day's outing. You will be introduced to the art of post-processing and shown how to coax the maximum tonality from any scene, from portraits with rich tonal depth to high-contrast street scenes.

Afternoon
The afternoon session will be dedicated to another photography outing in the streets of Tokyo, applying newfound knowledge and refining skills in real time.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Eligibility:
A parent or guardian must accompany anyone under 18 for the entire journey.
Included in the workshop price: Guidance by instructor Alan Schaller (hereafter referred to as “The instructor”).
Not included in the workshop cost: Meals, drinks, equipment, and accommodation.

Payment, cancellation and refunds:
To book a place on a workshop, full payment is required upon registration. If you are no longer able or choose not to attend your chosen workshop, the following refund policy will apply :

  • More than 45 days prior to the beginning of the workshop: 100% refund less a $50 admin fee.

  • Less than 45 days prior to the workshop: No refund is given unless you find a replacement. The $50 admin will still apply. To confirm your reason for not attending, an email notification is required. Leaving a workshop that has begun, for any reason, will not result in a refund.

The instructor reserves the right to cancel any workshop due to an inadequate number of participants making the workshop economically impracticable to run. In the event that a workshop is cancelled prior to the date stated, you will receive full refund of the cost of the workshop.

Responsibility:
The instructor will provide education, tips and advice during workshops.

They shall not be held responsible for:

  • (1) any loss or damage due to cancellation, delay, or disruption in any manner caused by the laws, regulations, acts or failures to act, demands, orders of any government, or by acts of nature, including strikes, fire, flood, war, terrorism, sickness, theft, or any other cause(s) beyond their control.

  • (2) Any damage to, or loss of, property or injury to, or death of, persons occasioned directly or indirectly by an act or omission of any other provider. The participant waives any claim against the instructor for any such loss, damage, injury, or death.

The instructor reserves the right in their sole discretion to accept, decline to accept, or remove any attendee on any photography workshop. The instructor reserves the right, without penalty, to make changes in the itinerary whenever, in their judgement, conditions warrants, or if they deem it necessary for the comfort, convenience, or safety of participants.

You are personally responsible for being in sufficiently good health to undertake your chosen workshop.
